What's New in Carnal Nova Imperium Version - 0.3?
It has been a while since I made a proper devlog, and I honestly added way more stuff than I remembered since the Bar update.
What started as a few new quests ended up opening a pretty large new part of the game, with new locations, characters, combat, territory management and an actual war system.
Quest Log
Probably one of the most useful additions.
There is now a proper Quest Log in the character dossier.
It shows:
Active, available and completed quests
What you need to do next
Where you need to go
When an objective is available
How a quest starts
How to continue it
Step by step quest progress
Search and filters
There is also a spoiler warning before opening it since some objectives can reveal characters or locations you have not discovered yet.
This should make progressing through the game much less confusing.
New Combat System
Combat has been heavily expanded.
Fights are now turn based, with the player and up to 3 followers fighting groups of up to 4 enemies.
The system is also used directly by quests now, so fights are no longer isolated random encounters. Winning or losing can change what happens next, who gets captured, which scenes play and how a quest continues.
Special quest battles can also have their own allies and enemies.
Luxivil
Luxivil is now a proper location with its own map and quest content.
This is also where you can find the Velvet Veil and some of the new quest objectives.
Different locations can appear depending on your current quest state, including the old service road and the alley behind the Velvet Veil.
The Velvet Veil
The Velvet Veil is now a complete brothel system instead of just another location.
Joana and Selana work there when you first arrive.
You can interact with the house, use its services, assign your own girls to work there and eventually manage their schedules.
Girls actually leave your available roster while they are working and return when their shifts are over.
Work can affect their stats and sexual condition, and the brothel has its own client events and incidents.
Once you gain control of the Velvet Veil, it becomes one of your businesses and you can manage it yourself.
The Silas / Velvet Veil Quest
Silas now has a full questline connected to the Velvet Veil.
It involves a convoy, raiders and Liz, with several fights and decisions along the way.
The quest can eventually lead to you taking control of the Velvet Veil.
Liz’s fate also depends on what you decide to do at the end of the quest.
Tribal Quest
This became much bigger than I originally planned.
The quest starts around the Velvet Veil and eventually takes you through Luxivil, Tribacity, the tribal palace and a new island.
Yu and Kiko are heavily involved in this storyline.
The quest eventually leads into the Imperial Domain and a major fight against the Tribal King.
Winning gives you control of the Imperial Domain.
Losing has its own route instead of simply giving you a game over. There are captivity events, another attempt at the fight and different story scenes depending on what happened.
Tribacity
Tribacity is now accessible as a new city.
It includes the tribal palace and several story sequences connected to Yu, Kiko, the Tribal King and his brother.
It also becomes the route toward the island and the Imperial Domain later in the quest.
The Imperial Domain
After the Tribal quest, you do not just finish the story and leave.
The territory becomes yours.
The island has its own map, administration area and domain management system.
This is also where the next major storyline begins.
Territory Management
Once the Imperial Domain belongs to you, you can actually return there and manage it.
The domain has its own administrative desk and computer where new events, reports and threats can appear.
Your control of the territory is also connected directly to the new war system instead of just existing as a line of dialogue saying you own an island.
The Vesper Storyline
Taking the Imperial Domain creates a new problem.
Cassian Roake, the ruler of Vesper, does not exactly appreciate having you next door.
This storyline introduces Himari and Eva into a much larger conflict and eventually gives you a 65 day objective to invade Vesper and recover Eva.
What happens at the end depends on whether you complete the campaign before or after the deadline.
War
There is now an actual territory war system.
You can raise military garrisons using girls from your household as representatives.
You can have up to 4 active field garrisons and move them across the Vesper islands.
The campaign is played over multiple days. You issue orders, end the day, then receive the results of what happened.
You can attack enemy territory, move forces and push the frontline toward Island 8.
The war is not completely safe for your representatives either.
Girls leading your garrisons can be captured. If that happens, they are physically removed from your normal available roster until they escape or are rescued.
Captured representatives also generate reports in the Domain computer with information about their captivity, condition, morale, fatigue and what has happened to them.
The final objective is Island 8 and Eva.
Winning the war also permanently changes your territory. The conquered Vesper islands can remain part of your domain after the storyline is finished.
New Girls
Seven new girls have been added:
Yu
Selana
Liz
Kiko
Joana
Himari
Eva
They are not just random additions to the roster.
Joana and Selana are connected to the Velvet Veil.
Liz is part of the Silas storyline.
Yu and Kiko are central to the Tribal quest.
Himari and Eva are tied to the Imperial Domain and Vesper campaign.
They also have their own dialogue and interaction content instead of only existing for their quest scenes.
Other Changes
There are a lot of smaller systems and changes mixed into all of this too.
Work shifts now interact more consistently with sleeping and the passage of days.
Business earnings can be processed while you sleep.
Pregnancy progression has been connected more consistently to the day system.
Quest locations now appear or disappear from maps depending on your current objective.
Several old systems have also been connected together so followers, prisoners, workers, missing girls, captured girls and quest characters do not exist as completely separate systems anymore.
There has also been a lot of work on save compatibility because some of these systems became much larger than they were when they were first added.
I am almost definitely forgetting a few smaller additions, but those are the main things added since the Bar update.
The game is starting to move away from being only about collecting characters and individual locations. There is now a much larger chain of quests where your businesses, followers, territory and decisions actually feed into each other.
